Hey!

So during today's Twitch outage, I was alerted to the existence of beam.pro.

I like the sleek look of the place and joined up.

As of right now, the streamer with the most viewers has 18. By our forces combined (heh), we could all easily support each other and be the most viewed people on this place.

You may also find restream.io a useful site. This will allow you to stream to multiple streaming sites, including Beam. It's very simple to get started and if you're capable enough to stream to one site, you can easily use this to setup a multistream.

Features of Beam:

  • Visually beautiful site, feels leagues more professional than Twitch
  • Minimal video/chat lag. You can actually have conversations with your viewers without having to wait up to 40 seconds before they hear and respond to what you're saying. The lag is so minimal, that it actually takes getting used to
  • Polls and giveaways are a standard function of the site. No chatbot required.
  • Transcoding options for everyone! Just have to enable it in your channel options.
  • Channel and profile updates happen in real time and will not require a refresh for current viewers to see the changes.
  • Responsive developer and support team (more important than you may think)

EDIT:

Here's everyone's Beam link, as far as I can tell:

SpiceWeasel

ElfIRL

AuditionMD

I will be following anyone I didn't follow last night or earlier. Doing the same is of course appreciated, especially since we're all starting from zero followers.

Lift presence on beam? I'm in. And I'm sure that big things can be done if we act as one!

Yes, exactly.

As of right now, the most viewed streamer has 13 viewers. There's easily more than 13 of us. *nudge nudge*

It's still in beta, so it's not quite as feature-rich as Twitch or whatever else is out there, but it definitely has potential from what I've seen already.

Domino and I were able to hold a decent conversation with very minimal stream/chat lag, plus the place simply feels more professional and put together than Twitch.

Neat. I just set up an account. Gonna try it out at some point. The UI is pretty dope.

What's your account name? I could take a guess, but I'd rather be sure of it first lol.

Don't forget to follow each other. We can easily make ourselves the most viewed streamers there.

Lift Invasion! If I have time maybe I'll fuck around with it today. Could be fun at the very least.

I did make a channel there (pxlpr0n). Beam definitely seems to be one of the more promising up-and-coming services.

I have my eye on Beam, DiscoMelee. and the revamping of YouTube - I'd love Twitch to have a heavy-hitter as a competitor. Everyone wins!

I may do a test cast over there tonight... just to see how it goes.

I'll follow you, Rabb, in case you do a cast and want a test guinea-pig viewer :)

A friend of mine went from Twitch to there. Decent features out of the gate, like zero delay chat and transcoding.

Helixia, they have a built-in poll system and plan to add a built-in donations too. Anything else they don't have can be done through bots that people have already created.

I have followed everyone that's posted their name. Share those names people and we can invade them, like Juju said.

Awesome, I may tinker with this and hitbox a little as well in the future.  Some of the features are nice.

Hitbox is OK. Something just seems 'off' about it... I dunno.

I agree. Beam seems cool. I registered and will play with it but mostly I wanted to reserve my username lol. Just in case it gets big.

idkwthfml lol

The #1 thing I don't like about Twitch that I think will ultimately be theirdownfall (if another streaming service gets around like Twitch) is transcoding for non-partnered streams. I think this will eliminate 90% of the buffering issues everyone is complaining about and give us the opportunity to stream at the highest settings possible, potentially increasing our stream quality. Either that or Twitch gives us the option to keep up with competition. My internet is ready.

I think Twitch's REAL problem is scalability. I really don't think the systems were designed with scalability in mind... They're growing faster than their systems can handle, and their growing pains are really starting to show.
